Methods

Some tutors and test prep centers use a strategy-teaching perspective. I do teach strategies, but in context. In order to keep the questions as accurate as possible, I use the prep book or online resources that come from the company who writes your test, sometimes with a supplemental text if needed. I start by going over the structure and rules of your test. The topics that are covered beyond that are based on a combination of what you are concerned about, and how your homework and practice tests are going. I have an extensive and ever-growing library of worksheets that can be tailored to the topics you need to practice. When a test question causes you difficulty, I use it in two ways:
  1. To demonstrate any test-taking strategies that could have helped you answer (or at least guess well on) the problem.
  2. To decide if it means you need further discussion of the math topic it tests.
The advantage of individualized tutoring is that we can skip practicing things you already know!

Please Note

  • I do not guarantee a specific score. What I offer is a set of tools to help you as you do the work of studying. Practicing at home, including homework and timed practice tests, will help you to maximize your score. The more time and effort you spend the better you can do!
  • I tutor for the MATH portion only of standardized tests. Please Check out my Resources Page to find a list of useful websites and books.
